Tim has over 33 years of litigation experience handling high exposure cases, including personal injury, construction/real estate, insurance/insurance agent litigation, and workers’ compensation/employment litigation. He has successfully tried numerous multi-million dollar cases, usually representing businesses and insurance companies. Tim grew up in Louisiana in a middle class family and his parents instilled the values of hard work, integrity, common sense, and selfless dedication to others. Tim has always enjoyed hunting and fishing, and played all sports while growing up in Louisiana. Now he spends any spare time playing golf and tennis, and following all sports, his favorite being college football. Tim moved to North Carolina in 1992 after practicing law in Louisiana for three years, where he immediately started litigating and trying cases as a young lawyer following a one-year judicial clerkship. He has lived in the Lake Norman area since 2002, and is active in the Lake Norman community. He has attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church and Saint Mark Catholic Church since 1992.

After working for larger firms for 8 years, in 1997 Tim co-founded his own firm, Moreau and Marks, PLLC (later Moreau, Marks, and Gavigan), in Charlotte, NC. His goal was, and still is, to provide personalized, responsive, and cost-effective legal advice/representation to a select number of clients. Legal Experience

  • August, 1988 to August, 1989: One year judicial clerkship for Judge Robert P. Jackson, Alexandria, LA. Heard all types of criminal and civil cases, bench and jury trials, prepared proposed judicial opinions/reasons for judgment/rulings and jury instructions.
  • August, 1989 to August, 1992: Practicing civil litigation attorney for Percy, Smith, Foote and Honeycutt in Alexandria, LA. Managed and responsible attorney for a diverse caseload of civil defense litigation, with some plaintiff’s litigation, commercial litigation and worker’s compensation/personal injury. Conducted over one hundred depositions and numerous trials and dispositive motions.
  • September, 1992 to August, 1997: Moved to NC with attorney from Louisiana to help develop civil litigation defense practice at Wishart, Norris, Henninger & Pittman, P.A. in Charlotte office. Handled large and diverse civil defense case load of high exposure personal injury cases and complex litigation representing companies and individuals, insurance defense work, and worker’s compensation/employment defense. Some commercial litigation. Managed and performed all work in cases from inception through trial, dismissal, or settlement. Successfully tried and defended numerous high exposure cases.
  • August, 1997 to September, 2012: Member/Manager and a founder of law firm of Moreau & Marks, PLLC (later Moreau, Marks & Gavigan, PLLC). Highly successful civil litigation firm for numerous self-insured companies, individuals and insurance companies. Mainly a defense litigation practice, with some significant plaintiff’s cases and commercial litigation. Successfully litigated hundreds of diverse and complex high exposure cases and worker’s compensation/employment defense cases.
  • September 2012 to present: After law partner left private practice, continued with same type of civil litigation cases and founded The Moreau Law Firm, PLLC. It is a solo practice and I perform all substantive legal work in the cases from inception through discovery, motions, settlement/trial or dismissal. Successfully handled numerous complex high exposure cases, both defense and plaintiff’s cases, as well as commercial litigation.
